Wine and Cheese Pairing: Book Review

For those of you interested in learning more about wine and cheese pairings, we have found a good book for you. Cheese & Wine: A Guide to Selecting, Pairing and Enjoying offers you lots of information about over 70 different types of cheeses and the wines that can work well with them.

We found this book to a good basic reference manual and a great way to get started in the art and science of enjoying wine and cheese together. The 70 varieties are the ones most available at cheese counters and stores, so that you can most likely find the cheeses recommended. The photographs are beautiful and worth having the book just for them, but the information is helpful and written well.

This is not at all an exhaustive book and certainly shouldn’t be considered a cheese and wine bible. That’s not the purpose of the book. If you are true newbie to pairing wine and cheese, you may want to first review our post Pairing Wine and Cheese. If you want to go a step further, this book is a good next step for you.

We did find that Cheese & Wine: A Guide to Selecting, Pairing and Enjoying gave us some wonderful new cheeses that we hadn’t tried, yet. The list of cheeses at the beginning of the book makes a good reference for those that would be fun to try and those that would make good options when serving wine and cheese to guests.

Overall, we felt that the author, Janet Fletcher, did a good job of moving along our wine and cheese tasting. Plus, we did enjoy Victoria Pearson’s photography.
